Photo Gallery of Ferns

  Ferns
offer exciting textures and attractive forms in every
hue of green or even silver for the shade garden. Although
many of our Ferns are native, this should not be the
determining factor in making your choices. All of our
selections, native or not, are chosen for their admirable
qualities - superior performance, form and habit, low
maintenance and aesthetic value in your garden.

Most Ferns thrive in rich, moist soils and prefer at least partial shade, avoiding exposure to direct
sunlight in the garden.  However, if planted in less than ideal conditions, they only require supplemental
water during extended dry spells. As a rule, Ferns require minimal maintenance other than the occasional
removal of dead fronds to maintain their tidy appearance. Mulching will help keep the soil cool and moist
during the growing season and as it decomposes will improve the soil over time.

Our Fern selections are described as follows:

Evergreen (E): Maintain foliage up to 12 months
Semi-evergreen (SE): Maintain foliage 8-9 months
Deciduous (D): Foliage deteriorates rapidly with the first signs of frost
